The City of Chester is now one step closer to securing access to a new source of clean water after State Senator Terri Bryant’s legislation, Senate Bill 950, was signed into law by the Governor this afternoon.
“Safe access to clean drinking water is an essential necessity that every resident within our state deserves,” said Sen. Bryant. “Unfortunately, the current source of Chester’s drinking water is in danger running out sometime in the future.”
Senate Bill 950 authorizes the Director of Corrections to execute and deliver to the City of Chester, for $1, specified property, subject to certain conditions. The City of Chester intends to use the newly acquired land to dig a new drinking water well for its residents.
“With the signing of this legislation, the City of Chester is hopeful it will be able to secure a new fresh water well that will provide its residents with safe and clean drinking water for future generations,” continued Sen. Bryant.
Senate Bill 950 passed out of the General Assembly during its fall veto session.
