State Senator Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) issued the following statement in response to the news that Marc D. Smith would be stepping down as the Director of DCFS:
“The resignation of DCFS Director Smith is sadly long overdue but should only be the first step. For far too long, the Pritzker Administration has failed to keep its promise to fix the systematic problems within the agency. Instead of seeing improvements, we have only seen the department fall further and further out of compliance in each new audit.
“It is time for the Governor to do the necessary and required work to reform and restructure DCFS. The people of Illinois shouldn’t have to settle for continual failures by this administration and an agency that fails to properly care for and protect our state’s most vulnerable children and families.”
